Official Language 

The official languages of Kenya are English and Swahili. English is widely used in business, education, and government, while Swahili serves as the national language spoken across the country. 

Office Hours 

Most businesses are open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Government offices generally operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Major shopping centres, hotels, and restaurants often operate extended hours. 


Currency 

Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks, forex bureaus, and hotels. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres, while mobile payment services such as M-Pesa are commonly used throughout the country. 



Timezone

Kenya operates on East Africa Time (EAT), which is UTC/GMT +3 hours. Kenya does not observe daylight saving time.

Electricity supply in Kenya is 240V / 50Hz. The standard plug type is the British-style three-pin square plug (Type G). Most hotels provide adapters upon request. 



Shopping

Kenya offers a vibrant shopping experience ranging from modern malls to traditional markets and artisan shops. Popular souvenirs include handmade jewellery, Maasai crafts, textiles, coffee, tea, wood carvings, and locally produced artwork.

Climate

Kenya enjoys a diverse climate that varies by region. Nairobi experiences mild temperatures throughout the year, while coastal regions such as Mombasa are warm and tropical. The Rift Valley and highland areas can be cooler, especially in the evenings. Visitors are encouraged to carry both light clothing and a light jacket.
